An agreement that will entail an investment of over 70 million euros, 23.5 million euros per season. The agreement's presentation was attended by Iker Casillas and Andres Iniesta, Liga BBVA players and world ambassadors of the BBVA brand. Thanks to this new sponsorship, BBVA strengthens its commitment with sport and guarantees the prominent presence of the bank in the best sport leagues of the world. BBVA's chairman Francisco Gonzalez asserted that "for BBVA, renewing this sponsorship is a natural step that we enthusiastically take. Since we joined efforts with the LFP in 2006, we have advanced greatly in the international dissemination of Liga BBVA and we want to continue supporting to disseminate it in the United States, Latin America and Asia". BBVA, strong despite the crisisAfter that, BBVA's chairman asserted that "our journey with the LFP has overcome some of the worst moments of the crisis thanks to BBVA's strong position and the way in which we have gone through the crisis, with no help, generating revenue and maintaining dividends. Many sport activities have lost their sponsors, but this is not the case for Liga BBVA, renewed here today." Francisco Gonzalez finished by saying that "in this new phase of sponsorship, we want the impact on BBVA to be greater and we are going to bring clubs closer to our branch network and to our customers. Moreover, together with the LFP we want to transfer to football the pillars on which we base our strategy: principles, people and innovation, that translate into team work, overcoming difficulties, effort and fair play." Values and excellenceIn turn, LFP's chairman Javier Tebas mentioned in his presentation that the LFP's aim with BBVA is to "consolidate and increase the universality of the Liga" as a brand with clear international content that aims to establish itself in markets of interest to both organisations. Tebas also stressed the commitment of both institutions: "from the start we knew that BBVA was not just one more travelling companion, it was THE COMPANION. We share similar values, those of sacrifice, teamwork, management transparency and innovation". The LFP's chairman stated that "naming the competition Liga BBVA conveys sport excellence together with the excellence in financial practices represented by BBVA", whilst Liga Adelante represents "improvement through effort." Finally, Tebas mentioned that "the Liga will be together with BBVA to consolidate its project for the future" and he finished by using the famous BBVA slogan: "forward for the dreams that we still have left". An international competitionLiga BBVA is, currently, one of the most followed sport competitions, with an audience of over 800 million people in nearly 189 countries where the matches can be seen. Moreover, in 2012 our league was considered, for the third consecutive year, the best league of the world according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) and has among its teams the largest amount of players awarded with the Ballon d'Or prize over the last four years. In Spain, Liga BBVA generates 85,000 direct and indirect jobs thanks to the over 14 million people that go to the stadiums every season, thus moving over 10 billion euros (1% if the Spanish GDP). In the case of BBVA, the bank's brand has achieved over 60 million hits since 2012, year when it was the most associated brand with sport. |

Liga de Futbol Profesional (LFP) presented on Saturday the 8th of June in Miami the next season, just a few hours before the friendly match between the national teams of Spain and Haiti. The LFP's chairman Javier Tebas presented in Miami the LFP's objectives and its international expansion project in an event that had the participation of the chairman of Valladolid, Carlos Suarez, and of international players Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique. The event took place at 10 am in the Imagina US studios in Miami. Towards the end of the crisis During his intervention, the LFP's chairman was confident that in three years most of the Spanish clubs will have overcome the economic crisis in which they find themselves and that has led to bankruptcy of some of them. Tebas recalled that they are "in a phase of economic restructuring" and that the LFP has established a period of three years to clean up the accounts of many of those clubs by setting salary limits in the first category teams preventing them from hiring more players. The chairman said that thanks to this" limited number of players' acquisitions many clubs will become an alternative" to the two big teams of the competition. However, he asserted that "four or five clubs will continue to contract top-level players". In this sense, he stated that the arrival of players such as Brazilian Neymar and that the prevalence of the two big Spanish teams is good for everyone in the Liga, because it has an impact on the sale of broadcasting rights. Moreover, and in order to prevent inflation in football, the LFP's chairman asserted that a club will not be allowed to invest more money than what it expects to generate, unless there is a bank guarantee for the difference. Tebas stated that there is a need to reflect upon the presence of sheiks and magnates that come to the clubs and inject money to win awards in entities whose revenue do not cover those expenses. Moreover, the chairman announced that they will try to set up next season a rule on "how the media should be treated before, during and after matches", similar to the UEFA model in the Champions League and on Liga Europa. Regarding the possibility that some of the Liga's rounds may be played during the Christmas holidays, Tebas stated that "it is not a priority" and that it must be studied in details with the AFE because many things must be "balanced". |
